[WORLD CUP 2014 QUALIFYING: Concacaf] Once again, Canada won't be going to the World Cup. It traveled to San Pedro Sula needing only a draw to advance to the Hexagonal, but it was no contest. Before a sellout crowd in the afternoon heat at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano, Honduras was ahead 4-0 after 33 minutes and coasted to a 8-1 win, an embarrassing result for Canada that had shown signs of improvement and received unprecedented support at home. In an understatement, Canada coach Stephen Hart said, “We did not play well." Panama and Costa Rica also advanced on Tuesday.

The New England Revolution's Jerry Bengston and former Houston Dynamo forward Carlo Costly each scored three goals, while the Seattle Sounders' Mario Martinez added two for Honduras.

“You want desperately for Canada to do well,” Hart said. “All I can do is ask the fans’ forgiveness on behalf of the players. I know they’ll never forgive me.”

Well looks like they can go back to concentrating on hockey. Oh wait! There is no hockey.
