[CENTENARY COPA AMERICA] The USA will host the biggest international tournament since the 1994 World Cup when it organizes the 16-team Centenary Copa America in 2016. Conmebol, the South American  soccer confederation, confirmed plans for the tournament to mark the 100th anniversary of the South American championship following a meeting on Wednesday in Buenos Aires.

The 16 teams will include Conmebol's 10 members, the USA, Mexico and four other Concacaf teams (to be determined by their finish at the 2015 Gold Cup).

Both Concacaf and Conmebol will host regional championships in 2015.

This really should be done every four years on the same schedule as the Euros - without fail.

Wow, this is exciting! I really enjoyed the US's past participation in the Copa, and while I realize it is tough on everyone schedule-wise, it will be fantastic as a fan to get to see such a high-level competition here in the US!

host venues will be interesting ... nice, cozy MLS soccer sites or larger sites

Definitely. Hope the tournament is a big success and sanity rules, and it becomes the norm. I'm sure somebody will screw it up though. Oh well, one can always hope.

Easy, the big teams play in big stadiums and any games involving only the smaller less followed teams get to play in cozy MLS stadiums. It should be a great tournament

This is great... already looking forward to it! Great games large and small stadiums. But, why is South America holding "their" hundred year celebration in the USA.

Money, John, money! Although it would be nice for the Copa America to be a true hemispheric competition. Subsequent developments have already indicated that it won't happen though. Already the little minds that so often run the soccer/footballing world are lining up in opposition unless they get their piece of the pie.
