Jack McBean scores on three fronts

[DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SPOTLIGHT] Within two weeks in October, 17-year-old Jack McBean scored goals for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Development Academy play, the MLS Reserve League and the Concacaf Champions League.

McBean struck twice in a 6-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps that gave the Galaxy its first-ever Reserve League division title.

The following weekend, the Newport Beach, Calif., native scored in a 7-0 Galaxy win over Strikers FC in Academy Western Conference play in a 25-minute appearance off the bench. (Justin Dhillon scored a hat trick in the win).

McBean capped his super October with two goals in the Galaxy’s 3-2 Concacaf Champions League win in El Salvador over Isidro Metapan Oct. 25. (*Video below)

In four Academy games this season, McBean has scored five goals for the Eddie Soto-coached Galaxy’s U-17/18 squad, which has a 4-0-1 record and sits atop the conference standings along with 5-0-1 Real Salt Lake.

The Galaxy signed McBean to a pro contract at age 16 in January 2011 after he scored nine goals in 10 Academy games for the Galaxy in 2010. He made one appearance for the USA at the 2011 U-17 World Cup.

McBean has played in two MLS league games for the 2011 MLS champion.

ACADEMY NEWS. Chivas USA forward Joshua Perez earned Week 7 Player of the Week honors after he scored and assisted on the other three goals in Chivas USA's U-15/16s’ 4-0 win over Pateadores. …

… Referee of the Week honors went to Esteban Rosano for his performance in the U-15/16 game between Chargers Soccer Club and Charlotte Soccer Academy. The 33-year-old Grade 5 referee from Florida has worked in 10 Academy matches and will be attending the 2012 Winter Showcase. He has worked USL PRO, Premier Development League and youth national team games. ...
