Time Warner Cable, the second largest U.S. cable-television operator behind Comcast, and Bright House Networks, the sixth largest, have added soccer network beIN Sport.

They will offer the network in English -- beIn Sport -- and a separate network in Spanish -- beIn Sport -- on TV and on demand.

Both networks will be made available to authenticated subscribers through Time Warner's TWC TV website (www.twctv.com) and applications inside the home and through Bright House Networks BHTV app and through beIN SPORT’s website (www.beinsport.tv) and applications inside and outside the home.

Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks are the second and third U.S. cable carriers to add BeIN Sport after Comcast.

BeIN Sport offers weekly coverage of Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1 as well as World Cup qualifying in Concacaf and South America.

MLS PLAYOFF RATINGS. According to Sports Business Journal's John Ourand, Sunday's MLS playoff game between Houston and Sporting Kansas City on NBC drew a 0.3 rating, tying for the weekend's lowest rated sports event on broadcast TV.

beIN's requirement that on-demand customers be authenticated cable customers is a disgrace. There is no technical reason for this restriction, and it makes no sense in a 21st century mobile Internet world. (I don't have to be an authenticated cable customer to use foxsoccer2go.com, for example.) This is just an anti-competitive attempt to pad the customer base of these cable giants. I'm particularly irritated by this because they outbid ESPN3 (which I could access) for the La Liga rights, and now insist that I must be a cable/satellite customer to watch these games on demand. I don't have any TV service, and that leaves me beOUT.
