[MLS SPOTLIGHT: New York expansion] How big is soccer in New York City? The construction of an MLS stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is one of a handful of projects on a special list Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office is hoping to push through before his term ends in 14 months, according to New York Post sources.

The Post reported that six projects have been selected to be pushed through " at lightning speed." The so-called "legacy list" also includes:

-- Midtown East rezoning;
-- Staten Island Ferris wheel;
-- U.S. Tennis Association expansion of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center;
-- Cornell’s Applied Sciences campus on Roosevelt Island; and
-- Kingsbridge Armory development in The Bronx.

A city official told the Post all other land-use proposals are getting ignored so as not to interfere with getting the six projects finished.

    Trusted tabloid pronounces MLS is on the Mayor's legacy list, and cites unnamed sources. In a related story, The Ghostbusters promise to open a new office in Manhattan with the Mayor's blessing.

    I can't wait for Bloomberg's visionary soccer stadium in the shape of a big 16oz sugary fountain drink! The leader of the nanny-state should stay out of athletics.....
