Chelsea breathed a sigh of relief, as it was revealed on Monday that captain John Terry would be sidelined for “weeks not months” after a scan found that the damage to his knee is not as bad as feared. Terry was injured during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool in an accidental collision with Liverpool forward Luis Suarez. The 31-year-old landed awkwardly on his right knee and was promptly stretchered off.

"MRI scans on John Terry's right knee thankfully show no significant damage to the cruciate ligaments," Chelsea said in a statement. "Chelsea Football Club's medical team will conduct further tests over the next two or three days once the swelling has subsided to determine how long John will be out, but it will be a matter of weeks not months."

Terry, who scored his 50th goal for Chelsea before being stretchered off, had only just returned from a four-game English Premier League ban for racial abuse.
