GOLD CUP: Group D pre-tournament update

American coach Steve Sampson announced the Tico roster for a training camp at the Cancha de Conducen in San Jose on June 28 in preparations for the upcoming 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The squad is led by nine players from local club Alajuela. Seven are with overseas teams -- three in Greece, two in Russia and one each in Italy and Italy.


Goalkeepers: Adrian De Lemus (Herediano), Ricardo Gonalez (Alajuela), Alvaro Mesen (Alajuela) Midfielders: Alexander Castro (Alajuela), Carlos Castro (Rubin Kazan/RUS), Pablo Chinchilla (Alajuela), Jervis Drummond (Saprissa), Danny Fonseca (Cartagino), Leonardo Gonzalez (Herediano), Luis Marin (Alajuela), Gilberto Martinez (Brescia/ITA), Mauricio Wright (AEK Athens/GRE), Harold Wallace (Real San Luis/ME.

Midfielders: Try Bennett (Saprissa), Walter Centeno (AEK Athens/GRE), Wilmer Lopez (Alajuela), Mauricio Solis (OFI Crete/GRE), Jafeth Soto (Herediano), Daniel Vallejos (Herediano).

Forwards: Steven Bryce (Alajuela), Gerald Drummond (Saprissa), Rolando Fonseca (Alajuela), Winston Parks (Lokomotiv Moscow/RUS), Alvaro Saborio (Saprissa), Erick Scott (Alajuela).
