[AWARDS] Alex Morgan, whose 28 goals in 2012 are the third most in the history of the U.S. women's national team, was named U.S. Soccer's 2012 Female Athlete of the Year.

Morgan's goals included the dramatic winner in the 123rd minute of the USA's 4-3 win over Canada in the Olympic semifinals. The USA has three games to play against China in December.

The award is the first for Morgan, who is also on the short list for FIFA Ballon d'Or award as top women's player in the world.

The Young Female Athlete of the Year award went to U.S. under-20 national team captain Julie Johnston.

Online votes registered on U.S. Soccer's Facebook Page counted for 50 percent of the total votes, while the other 50 percent was represented by votes compiled from members of the national media and U.S. Soccer representatives, including National Team coaches and members of the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors.
