[AMERICANS ABROAD] Oguchi Onyewu and Jozy Altidore both scored in cup competitions on Tuesday. Onyewu's goal came in stoppage time in Malaga's 1-1 tie at Eibar in the Copa del Rey. Altidore's goal, his 15th of the season, helped AZ to a 3-2 win over second division Dordrecht in the KNVB Cup.

Onyewu scored on a header three minutes into stoppage time of the first leg of their round-of-16 series.

Altidore, who scored in the 25th minute, now has 37 goals in two seasons with AZ. He is the first American to score as many as 15 goals in back-to-back seasons in a major European league.

In Germany, Jermaine Jones started for Schalke 04 in its 2-1 loss to Mainz in Germany's DFB Pokal. His current four-game suspension only applies to Bundesliga play. He received a yellow card against Mainz for a foul on Marco Caligiuri. Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel was ejected for going onto the field to scream at Jones.

"I was absolutely shocked by the the foul," Tuchel said. "It looked very bad."
