Manchester United moved seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League standings on Wednesday with a 4-3 win over Newcastle United. The Red Devils went behind onthree separate occasions and responded three times until finally taking the lead through a 90th minute strike from Javier Hernandez.

After the game, a delighted SirAlex Ferguson hailed his team for coming from behind three times. “Never mind where we are in the table, that was a championship performance,” the United coach said. “We droppedtwo points at Swansea on Sunday but made up for it today. I think it’s given us all a lift — some of the football we played was fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Newscastle coachAlan Pardew saw his team fall to 15th place, just five points above the relegation zone. “It’s difficult because we’ve scored three goals here at OldTrafford,” he said. “You think when you score three, you’re going to win the game. We hit the bar, and the post, and we scored three goals. But we conceded four. We gifted them thelast goal and that’s been the story for us this season. The last couple of goals were poor for us.”
