Leo Messi turned down a massive $40 million a season after tax offer from an unnamed Russian club while he was negotiating the contract extension he just signed at Barcelona last
week, Marca reports.
An unknown Russian club, reportedly Anzhi Makhachkala, offered to pay the Argentine’s $330 million buyout clause as well as $40 million per year. That is twice as
much as the deal he eventually signed with Barca, which is worth $20 million per season until 2018.
The report claims that Messi did not consider the Russian offer at any time, because his
main objective is to keep winning trophies with the Catalan club.
