The Swedish Language Council has officially added a word to the Swedish dictionary that is named after Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic. “Zlataner”, literally “to Zlatan”, means to “clear anything with force” or “to dominate” in English.

The verb has been in common use by Swedes for a few months after initially taking off in France, where Ibrahimovic plays for Paris St. Germain.

The word “Zlatanera” was originally used on Les Guignols, a French puppet show featuring a rubber Ibrahimovic who talks about himself in the third person. In an aftershave commerical, he promises the fragrance will help you “Zlatan” any woman you like. The big Swede leads the French Ligue 1 with 18 goals for PSG so far this season.
