British paper The Daily Mirror is reporting that former LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is in talks with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua about possibly moving to the Far
East on a short-term, but lucrative, contract that would see Beckham take home a reported $403,800 a week as his salary in addition to a minimum $32.3 million from endorsement and merchandising deals.
Shanghai Shenhua rose to prominence in 2012 after signing Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba, both formerly of Chelsea. The club disappointed last season
by finishing ninth in the 16-team Chinese Super League and missing out on the playoffs, as well as next season’s Asian Football Confederation Champions League.
According to the
report, TV mogul Simon Fuller, Beckham’s close friend and manager, is engineering the China move.
