[VIDEO PICK: Golazo] Santa arrived late for Nicolas Gaitan in Portugal on Sunday when the Benfica midfielder opened a lavish gift to us all, the best backheel of 2013.

On Monday the world celebrated a left-footed Argentine for scoring 91 goals in a calendar year at the age of 25. Today we’re recognizing another for scoring just one.

His name is Nico, he’s 24, and he did it in the blink of an eye. A Boca Juniors product from Buenos Aires with six national team appearances, Gaitan painted a sublime picture with one deft stroke in a 3-1 win over Estoril.

In an age of instant analysis and hyperbole it’s tempting to proclaim you will absolutely not see a better backheel over the next 12 months, we won’t go quite that far. Although we’re glad Benfica’s coach, Jorge Jesus, isn't quite so modest.

This clip requires an extra click -- but we think both the goal and the music will be worth it, enjoy ... SEE HERE.
