Goal.com reports that the Los Angeles Galaxy will soon unveil Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as the big-name replacement for David Beckham. “It’s all
but done,” a source close to Lampard said of the deal, which has been suggested in the media for months. A Galaxy team spokesman would not confirm or deny the rumor, saying only that Coach
Bruce Arena had publicly acknowledged interest in the player on Thursday, adding that the team could be ready to announce a new Designated Player next week.
If the report
proves accurate, the 34-year-old will join the Galaxy on a free transfer at the end of the season, when his contract with Chelsea expires. Lampard is arguably the greatest goalscoring midfielder in
English Premier League history. He is currently Chelsea’s second all-time leading scorer with 194 goals in 584 appearances; he has seven goals in 14 appearances so far this season.
