A Galaxy team spokesman would not confirm or deny the rumor, saying only that Coach Bruce Arena had publicly acknowledged interest in the player on Thursday, adding that the team could be ready to announce a new Designated Player next week.

If the report proves accurate, the 34-year-old will join the Galaxy on a free transfer at the end of the season, when his contract with Chelsea expires. Lampard is arguably the greatest goalscoring midfielder in English Premier League history.
