[AMERICANS ABROAD] Clint Dempsey scored late in stoppage time to give Tottenham a 1-1 tie with leader Manchester United in the English Premier League. It was the fourth goal in four games for Dempsey, who was inserted in the Spurs' starting lineup because Emmanuel Adebayor is at the Africa Cup of Nations. Jozy Altidore needed only 15 minutes in the second half to score a hat trick as AZ won its first Dutch Eredivisie game at home since September with a 4-1 victory over Vitesse. The three goals gave Altidore 14 for the season.

-- Maurice Edu
made his debut as a sub for Bursaspor in its 2-1 win over Kayserispor in Turkey.

-- Jose Torres started his first game for Tigres in its 1-0 victory over Atlas.
