Two ties give Honduras group title

[COPA CENTROAMERICANA] Honduras, which will face the USA in the opening of the Hexagonal on Feb. 6, won its group at the 2013 Copa Centroamericana in Costa Rica despite tying both its games, 1-1. Costa Rica, the third Hexagonal entrant at the Copa Centroamericana along with Honduras and Panama, won the other group, while Belize finished second with a 2-1 win over Nicaragua to qualify for the Gold Cup for the first time.

The Houston Dynamo's Oscar Boniek Garcia set up the lone Catracho goal, sending a free kick into the area for Juan Pablo Montes to score on a header.

New England's Jerry Bengtson later hit the post on a breakaway for Honduras.

The Hondurans, who won the tiebreaker on total goals, advanced to the semifinals of the Copa Centroamericana against Belize and qualified automatically for the Gold Cup.

El Salvador edged Panama in a coin toss to take second place and move into the semifinals against Costa Rica.

Panama will meet Guatemala, the third-place team in Group A, will play in the Copa Centroamericana fifth-place match to determine the fifth Gold Cup qualifier.
