[VIDEO PICK: Off the Post] A new commercial recounts the touching friendship of former Feyenoord star Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his lifelong pal from Diergaarde Blijdorp, a zoo in Rotterdam, which is the team's new shirt sponsor.

Born in Rotterdam, van Bronckhurst started and ended his career with Feyenoord, but in between he won five league titles with Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, a Champions League crown with the Spanish giant, and ended his career by captaining the 2010 World Cup runner-up Dutch squad in South Africa.

Now 37, and an assistant coach at Feyenoord, this ad regales us with the tale of a young Gio, and how he came to develop a special bond with one member in particular at the 155-year-old zoo, which was cut short by a tragic soccer accident on the piers of Rotterdam.

Set to Feyenoord’s club anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” 28 years after it began, this tale provided a happy ending …
