The U.S. men fell four spots to 32nd in FIFA’s world soccer rankings, which were released on Thursday, thanks to its 2-1 loss away to Honduras in the opening game of the final round of Concacaf qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. While 32nd is the U.S. team’s lowest ranking in four months, it’s still better than 36th, the position the Americans occupied last summer that was its lowest-ever ranking. The team’s highest-ever FIFA ranking was fourth, which it held going into the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Elsewhere, reigning World Cup and European champion Spain continued to hold onto top spot, followed by Germany and Argentina. England rose to two places to fourth, thanks to its 2-1 win over Brazil at Wembley earlier this month, while Italy rounded out the top five.

Nigeria, winner of the just-concluded African Nations’ Cup in South Africa, soared 22 places to 30th, although the Super Eagles still lag behind fellow Africans Ivory Coast (12), Ghana (19), and Mali (25) in the FIFA table. Click here to view the full table.
