Glasgow Celtic had been winless in its previous nine trips to Italy and its 10th was no a better -- a 2-0 loss at Juventus that sent the Scots out, 5-0, on aggregate of the Champions League.

Celtic had reached the round of 16 after finishing ahead of Benfica and Spartak Moscow and famously beating Barcelona at Celtic Park in group play. But hopes of a miraculous comeback in the second leg against Juventus were extinguished by Alessandro Matri's 24th minute goal. Fabio Quagliarella, whose rebound Matri had finished, sealed the win in the 65th minute.

Juventus is aiming for its first Champions League title since 1996. It finished runner-up in 2003.
