[CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] The Los Angeles Galaxy played to a 0-0 tie with Costa Rica's Herediano on the road in the first leg of their Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal series. Herediano was awarded a penalty kick in the 87th minute, but Ismael Gomez smashed his shot off the crossbar. The result leaves the Galaxy in good position to qualify for the semifinals for the first time when it hosts Herediano Wednesday.

Defender Cristian Montero had the best chance of the first half, but his header hit the crossbar.

Early in the second half, Robbie Keane fed Mike Magee, but Sunday's hat trick hero hit his shot off the crossbar.

Magee appeared to have scored for the Galaxy in the 67th minute, but his goal was called off for a dubious offside.
