[ID2 TOUR] The id2 National Selection fell to Barcelona's Infantil A squad (1999s), 2-1, in the third game of its Spanish tour. Edwin Lara (San Leandro Pumas) cut the deficit with a left-footed shot from the top of the box, but the comeback bid fell short in the 70-minute contest.
Real Madrid-id2 report
Last year, the id2
National Selection squad comprised of players born in 1998 defeated Barcelona by a 3-1 margin on the same field.
“Really, really entertaining game,” id2 National Selection
head coach Gerry McKeown said. “Both teams [were] going at it, both in a 4-3-3 and both trying to build out of the back. Both teams should be commended
for the way they handled themselves and the quality and the intensity of the game. I thought it was outstanding.”
Barca scored on goals in the 28th and 39th minutes, but the id2
all-stars held their own. Lara’s 35-yard free kick rattled the post, and William Rojas (Match Fit Chelsea) came close on the rebound.
“I’m proud of our guys,” McKeown said. “They went behind, they stuck with it, they got the goal, (and) we kept going forward. I think there was a little relief on the other
bench when the whistle blew. Our guys were getting on top of it a little bit and certainly had the mentality that could have definitely pulled the result, but I couldn’t be prouder of the guys
in terms of their effort or the way they played. (It was) really a pretty special night that hopefully they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”
The 2013 id2 National
Selection International Tour will conclude Sunday with a game at Girona.
