[USA WOMEN] U.S. women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo is expected to be out approximately 3-4 months after
undergoing successful surgery on Thursday to repair torn cartilage in her left wrist.
Solo, who has been playing with the long-standing injury, will likely miss at least the first half of
the NWSL season. She was allocated to the Seattle Reign.
Solo is second all-time in U.S. history in caps (135) for a goalkeeper. She won the best
goalkeeper award at the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany
The women's national team also lost goalie Jill Loyden, who suffered a broken bone in her
left hand during training Thursday in Portugal. Loyden, who started the opening 3-0 win over Iceland at the Algarve Cup, is slated to play for Sky Blue FC in the new NWSL.
Loyden's
absence leaves the USA with only Nicole Barnhart and Ashlyn Harris as options in goal for the rest of the Algarve
Cup.
