[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore added to his single-season scoring record for an American abroad with his 25th goal in all competitions in AZ's 3-2 loss to Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie.

-- Clint Dempsey
made his return after sitting out five games with a calf injury. He played the second half of Tottenham's 1-0 loss to his old club, Fulham.

-- Andrew Wooten
scored his fifth league goal of the season for 2. Bundesliga club Sandhausen in its 2-2 tie at VfR Aalen.

-- Two huge saves by Brad Guzan -- expected to start in the upcoming U.S. World Cup qualifiers -- helped Aston Villa hold off QPR, 3-2, for a result that moved Villa six points clear of the relegation zone in the English Premier League and left QPR in the basement.

-- Once again, Fabian Johnson did not dress for Bundesliga relagation candidate Hoffenheim, which was held to a 0-0 tie by Mainz. Three other defenders called up for the USA's opening match of the Hexagonal again did not play: Carlos Bocanegra, Edgar Castillo and Michael Parkhurst.

-- More bad news on the U.S. backline front: Birmingham City manager Lee Clark said Jonathan Spector was supposed to be headed to join the USA until an ankle injury (ligament damage) suffered 30 seconds into Saturday's game at Middlesbrough.
