[U.S. UNDER-20 MEN] Forward Daniel Cuevas, who starred for the USA at the 2013 Concacaf Under-20 Championship, tweeted Wednesday night that he just found out that he has a "small tear on my meniscus" and he might have to have surgery.

Cuevas, a native of Sacramento, Calif., plays for Mexican club Santos' Sub 20 team. He was fouled for the penalty kick that led to the first goal against Haiti and scored the second goal himself in the 2-1 win to open the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Puebla, Mexico.

In the deciding quarterfinal match that would determine which team would go to the 2013 Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, Cuevas assisted on the tying goal and started the sequence that led to the fourth goal in the 4-2 win over Canada.

Cuevas scored in the 2-0 win over Cuba in the semifinals but suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of the final, where the USA lost to Mexico, 3-1, in overtime.

I was really impressed with this kid's play. I think he would be a nice change of pace to put on the wing for the Senior team. His play appeared to be similar to Joseph Gyau - use of speed and taking on defenders.

Good Luck and hopes for smooth recovery for him. The kid's got a future.

Fortunate enough to watch Daniel play thru his teens with - River City , Our Lady Of Guadalupe & Atlas - Sacramento Metro & Competitive Clubs ( Coaches -Antonino & Anthony Esqueda ). He was very good then & enjoyed always watching him play hard & fair / respecting the game ... With his accomplished Natomas H.S. team and with his Academy Program ( Coach -Billy Wiskel ) in friendly matches vs. Sacramento Gold F.C. . it's no surprise that now he's making a positive difference with dangerous outstanding attacking play for the National USA - U-20's . ( Coach - Tab Ramos ). No doubt as he continues to demonstate his passion & effort while striving to fix his game his maturity & improvement as a complete team will shine thru & as an impact player & we all will have an opportunity to support & cheer Daniel as a great player on a team at the next level ( MLS - Coach ? - TBA ) Best thoughts & wishes - Stay Healthy Your Friend in Life & Sports Wayne Novoa - Beautiful Game Fanatic
