Nebraska club alleges $150,000 embezzlement

[JURISPRUDENCE] Phoenix Futbol Club of Nebraska alleges that it has been the victim of a $150,000 embezzlement scheme and a 36-year-old Bellevue woman turned herself in at the Sarpy County Jail and was booked on suspicion of theft over $1,500.

The Omaha World-Herald identified here as Michelle Williamson, reportedly a former board member of the 300-player club whose children played in the club.

"With the assistance of our accountants, the IRS and our attorney, we have determined that over $150,000 in club funds were misappropriated," read a letter from the club board to parents.

Williamson's attorney, Donald L. Schense, said she plans to plead not guilty.

“At this point, we are going to wait to get our hands on all of the reports,” Schense said. “A forensic accountant is going to be required to determine what, if any, amount of loss occurred. We'll simply take it one step at a time.”

    Sept 15 Michelle Williamson agreed to a plea bargain and was sentenced to 10 years probation on two felony counts of stealing from the club and tax evasion. Restitution was ordered as part of the plea bargain. The remaining 5 felony counts were dropped.
