On Sunday ...

-- Orlando City survived a two-hour stoppage because of severe weather in the area to beat the visiting Rochester Rhinos, 3-1, in its home opener at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Long Tan, Sporting KC loan player Dom Dwyer and Jamie Watson scored for Orlando.

-- Phoenix FC dropped its second consecutive home match, 3-1 to the Los Angeles Blues, who took over first place with their third win in four games. Nelson Pizarro, Cory Miller and Sergio Ortiz scored for the Blues.

-- Casey Townsend, on loan from D.C. United, registered a pair of goals as the Richmond Kickers earned a 4-1 win over the defending champion Charleston Battery in front of 2,497 fans in Richmond. Former Zimbabwean international Joseph Ngwenya, who played for four MLS clubs, opened the scoring for the Kickers.

--Karamba Janneh opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time and Douglas Dos Santos and Andriy Budnny added goals after the break as VSI Tampa Bay FC beat the Rochester Rhinos, 3-0, in front of 1,032 fans in their first game at Plant City Stadium.

-- The Charlotte Eagles opened their season with a 2-0 win over the visiting Antigua Barracuda FC on goals from Nate Thornton and rookie Christian Ramirez.
