Regarding Joe Petrone's departure from FC Edmonton, the hiring of the immensely experienced Colin Miller (who's coaching credentials massively eclipse those of Petrone) made retention of Petrone as the Director of Soccer Operations - and effectively Miller's boss - irrelevant. While Mr. Petrone's resume does include involvement with every professional soccer endeavour in Edmonton since 1979, his coaching experience is limited to part of a season as a replacement to Timo Liekoski at the helm of the NASL Drillers in 1981. Colin's experience in the Scottish Premier League and as Canada's U20 and MNT do not require oversight by a less qualified individual. Mr. Petrone's contributions to Edmonton pro soccer in general and FCE in particular have been valuable and irreplaceable at the time, for this we in Edmonton are eternally grateful. Unfortunately his place within the team became redundant, the money paid for his services can now be redirected to acquiring much needed on field talent. I wish Mr. Petrone nothing but success in pursuing an NASL franchise for Calgary, it will only enhance the experience for Edmonton and Alberta soccer fans.
