[MLS REWIND: Week 8] Saturday was a day of firsts in MLS: Landon Donovan's first goal of the season and his first assist in the LA Galaxy's 2-0 win over Eastern Conference leader Sporting Kansas City, and the Seattle Sounders' first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Obafemi Martins' first MLS goal. FC Dallas beat the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-0, to open up an eight-point lead in the Western Conference. Real Salt Lake moved into a tie for second place with the Galaxy thanks to a 1-0 win over Chivas USA. For the weekend MLS action ...

Video: Weekend timeline

LANDON IS BACK. Donovan set up Marcelo Sarvas for the first goal, snapping Sporting Kansas City's 545-minute shutout streak — the fifth longest scoreless streak in MLS history -- and then scored into an empty net for the 125th goal of his MLS career -- and one of the easiest goal he'll ever score -- after Robbie Keane broke away from the Sporting KC defense. ''Don't count the old guy out just yet,'' Donovan said. ''I've still got a little bit more to give.''

INJURY EPIDEMIC. The Colorado Rapids' injury problems reached epidemic proportions. Already missing seven starters, Colorado lost striker Edson Buddle (knee pain), who was a last-minute scratch before Saturday's Seattle game, and center back Marvell Wynne (quad strain) left the game in the second half. Dillon Powers needed four stitches after suffering a gash in his face in training but played against the Sounders.

JACK MAC TOPS CHARTS. Jack McInerney scored two goals, including the winner, as the Philadelphia Union defeated D.C. United, 3-2, at home. The goals gave Jack Mac six on the season to top the MLS scoring charts. The loss left D.C. United -- loser of four in a row -- with four points in seven games -- the worst record in MLS.

GOONIE MAGIC. It's time to officially include rookie Adam Jahn among the San Jose Earthquakes' Goonies. The Stanford product, the 15th pick in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, scored his first career MLS goal in the 83rd minute of the Quakes' 2-1 win over New York and he earned them a share of the points with the Portland Timbers in stoppage time on Sunday night.
