Big weekend for homegrown products

[MLS SPOTLIGHT] It was a big weekend for MLS homegrown players as Russell Teibert scored his first two goals in three seasons with Vancouver, Gyasi Zardes scored his first MLS goal for LA Galaxy set up by another homegrown player Jose Villarreal, and Diego Fagundez scored for New England in its 1-1 tie with New York. They bring to eight the number of homegrown players who have scored in 2013.

MLS Homegrown Scoreboard:
74 signings:
-- 23 have played in 2013
-- 23 have not played in 2013
-- 6 are on loan to USL PRO teams in 2013
-- 2 are on loan to NASL teams in 2013
-- 1 is on loan to Costa Rican team in 2013
-- 1 is on loan to German team in 2013
-- 1 was sold to Belgian team in 2013
-- 17 are no longer in MLS

They bring to eight the number of homegrown players who have scored in 2013. In addition, DeAndre Yedlin scored for the Seattle Sounders in the Concacaf Champions League.

Colombian-born Jonathan Osorio, who has scored twice (including the Week 9 Goal of the Week) for Toronto FC, was signed out of the KIA Toronto FC Academy in March though he wasn't eligible for a homegrown contract.

    Hats off to these players! But Paul, if I were you I'd get the "homegrown" issue straight!!!! I can't speak for other clubs, however, this HOME GROWN "FIASCO" is for the birds! Villareal and Zardes ARE NOT PRODUCT OF THE GALAXY...FAR FROM IT! Shame on the Galaxy for not compensating the Youth Club for "the Rights" of these players! How in the world are Youth Clubs going to survive? You brought up a "very sensitive" subject Paul which requires the utmost of research before the "horn starts tooting!" The Galaxy and the USSDA? All confused...the system is confused!
