[U.S. OPEN CUP REWIND: Second Round] Four PDL teams advanced to the third round of the centennial edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, including the Des Moines Menace and FC Tucson, which knocked off teams two levels above them in the NASL.

DES MOINES MENACE.The Menace, coached by former FC Dallas head coach Mike Jeffries, beat Minnesota United FC, 1-0, for its fifth win over a pro club.

Brandon Frickescored the lone goal on an 86th-minute header, and the Menace survived a late scare when Pablo Campos’ header hit off the crossbar. The win moves Des Moines into the third round at defending champion Sporting Kansas City.

FC TUCSON.FC Tucson knocked off the San Antonio Scorpions in a shootout after their game ended, 2-2. Saeed Robinson put Tucson on top 2-1 with just over 20 minutes to play, but San Antonio sent the game to overtime on a last-second penalty kick by Hans Denissen.

FC Tucson, which had tied the game at 1-1 on Ricardo Velasco's goal in the 55th minute, had beaten Phoenix FC of USL PRO in the first round.

OCEAN CITY NOR'EASTERS.The Ocean City Nor'easters beat USL PRO's Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 1-0, in the second round for their fifth win over a pro club in their history.

The Nor’easters' goal came in the second half courtesy of a thunderbolt from first-year playerKen Tribbett to set up a third-round date with the Philadelphia Union.

READING UNITEDAC. Reading United AC edged the Harrisburg City Islanders, 1-0, on a goal by Brazilian Mario Pinto-Neto in a battle of Philadelphia Union affiliates to move into the third round against the New York Red Bulls.

Reading, which set an amateur record by qualifying for the Open Cup for the fifth year in a row, has won its first four games of the 2013 season by a 14-0 margin. Its starting lineup included Jamaican Damion Lowe (son of former Reggae Boy Onandi Lowe) from Hartford and Soccer America MVP Steve Neumann from Georgetown.
