[CHIVAS USA] Caleb Calvert, who leads the U-15/16 age group with 22 goals scored in Development Academy play in 2012-13, scored in his debut for Chivas USA's reserve team, a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders in Reserve League play Sunday at The Home Depot Center.
The 16-year-old Calvert started and played the entire and headed the first goal of the match in the 68th minute off a ball from Jose Manuel Rivera.
“I feel very comfortable," said Calvert, "especially with Rivera. He’s a great player; he and I just linked up in the whole game and he gave me a fantastic ball and it just worked out very well. It was the most perfect ball you could ever ask for and it was a simple header off the keeper."
Calvert trained with the Chivas USA first team in early May and then obtained a second invitation to return to training once classes ended for the summer.
Both Chivas USA’s U-17/18 and U-15/16 teams qualified for U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy playoffs that are set to kick off June 24 in Frisco, Texas.
