[WORLD CUP 2014 QUALIFYING: South America] Argentina was again held to a tie, this time 1-1 at Ecuador, while Colombia moved to within three points of the lead with a 2-0 win over Peru.

The big winners were Chile, which opened up a five-point gap in fourth place with a 3-1 win over Bolivia, and Uruguay, which won, 1-0, at Venezuela.

Uruguay vaulted ahead of La Vinotinto into fifth place on goal difference and with a game in hand in the South American qualifying group.

The top four teams qualify automatically. The fifth-place team will place the Asian playoff winner in a two-game playoff.
