After a series of failed negotiations involving the likes of Fabio Capello, Andre Villas-Boas and Guus Hiddink, French champion Paris Saint-Germain has finally appointed Laurent Blanc as its new coach, the sports channel BeIn Sport reported on Friday. The report, which came via the channel’s Twitter account, claims that Blanc, a former World Cup winner with France in 1998, will sign a two-year deal at the start of next week.

The BeIn Sport story was later corroborated by a report in French daily Le Parisien. “Even if nothing is official, the former world champion has a great chance of becoming the new coach of PSG,” Le Parisien wrote. Having a Frenchman in charge at PSG might improve the club's image in France, especially in the capital. PSG fans have a history of hooliganism.

Blanc, 47, has been a free agent since stepping down from the national team job after Euro 2012.
