Richmond remains unbeaten; Orlando battles Flu
June 23rd, 2013 3:05AM

[USL PRO REWIND: Week 14] The Richmond Kickers remained undefeated this season after battling the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in front of a rain-soaked crowd of 2,135 at City Stadium.

Joseph Ngwenya buried the equalizer in the second half, but the Kickers (7-0-5) were denied twice by the woodwork after the 90th minute. Saturday's other two league matches ended in 0-0 ties.

Sunday ...

The Dayton Dutch Lions got a goal from Tjeerd Westdijk in the final minute to defeat the Los Angeles Blues, 1-0, and climb three spots up to sixth place in the standings.

-- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds scored two goals in each half to defeat Antigua Barracuda FC, 4-1, and extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games in USL PRO play. Darren Amoo led the Riverhounds with two goals, while Jose Angulo netted his 10th goal of the year and Rob Vincent tallied his first goal of the season in front of 3,121 supporters. Barracuda FC dropped to 0-15-0.

Friday ...

The second-place Harrisburg City Islanders were up 2-0 at home after 21 minutes but could not hold on, falling to Pittsburgh, 4-3. The Riverhounds scored four unanswered goals, including a pair by Angulo, in the second half. Amoo had the tying goal and Mike Seth added an insurance goal for the Riverhounds. English winger Tom Mellor, loan player Jimmy McLaughlin and leading scorer Sainey Touray scored for Harrisburg in the Keystone Derby. The Islanders had won four out of their last five league games.

-- Tyler Rosenlund scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Blake Brettschneider in the 88th minute to give the Rochester Rhinos a 2-1 win over Antigua Barracuda FC. Rochester came back from 1-0 down to avoid the embarrassment of being the first team to not take all three points from the touring Caribbean team. Left back Danny Earls had scored the equalizer from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.

-- The Charlotte Eagles earned a 1-0 victory over VSI Tampa Bay FC on Sergio Villasenor's goal in the 74th minute. Eric Reed earned his fifth shutout of the season.

Exhibition ...

-- First-place Orlando City fell to Brazil's Fluminense, 4-3, in a friendly that drew 11,127 fans at the Florida Citrus Bowl, an international friendly club record for attendance. Dom Dwyer gave Orlando City the early lead, but Flu responded with four goals to take command of the game. Adama Mbengue scored one goal and set up Jean Alexandre for another two minutes apart as Orlando pulled to within one goal with 10 minutes to play.

“It was great for some of our younger players to play against them [Fluminense],” said Orlando City coach Adrian Heath. “On the whole, I’m pleased with the evening.”
