Iowa team wins rare title

[REGION II CHAMPIONSHIPS] Iowa City Alliance Heatwave's U-17 girls became the first Iowa team in more than a decade to win a regional title as they beat Academy United of Illinois, 3-1, at the Region III Championships in Des Moines. For the results of all the finals ...

-- Three players had hat tricks to lead their teams to championships: Daniel Wright (U-14 Michigan Wolves boys), Sarah Krause (U-15 Ambassadors FC girls) and Simone Gardner (U-14 NSA Rockets girls).

-- Three returning champions retained their regional titles: U-15 Ambassadors FC girls, U-18 Team Chicago Academy Botafogo girls and U-15 Vardar boys.

-- Illinois led all states with five titles, while Michigan was second with four.
