Parsons to make debut as Washington head coach

[NWSL SCHEDULE: Week 13] The Washington Spirit will play its first game under new coach Mark Parson Wednesday when its hosts FC Kansas City. The Spirit replaced head coach Mike Jorden after it fell into the NWSL cellar with a 4-0 loss to the Western New York Flash -- its fifth straight shutout loss.

Parsons was coaching the Spirit reserves in the W-League, where he led the D.C. United Women to the Eastern Conference championship and a place in the final in 2012.

“I feel everyone at the club has, and will continue to have, great respect for Mike as a professional and as a person,” Spirit general manager Chris Hummer said in a statement. “But the poor results of the past six weeks have pushed the team into last place, and that’s just not something we can accept. We have the best fans in NWSL, and they deserve a winning team.”
