[AMERICANS ABROAD] A lot can happen in a year. Just ask Brad Guzan. A year ago, he was a free agent entering the summer transfer market after Aston Villa didn't pick up his contract. But following a managerial change, Aston Villa re-signed the 28-year-old Guzan and he won the starting job in goal. His reward after being named the Villa Player of the Year was a four-year contract through the end of the 2016-17 season.

Guzan won the starting job from Irishman Shay Given and appeared in 36 games, the most of his five-year career in England.

“It’s always nice when you’re wanted by a club,” the U.S. international said. “I’ve had some good years here at Aston Villa and to be able to commit my future just puts a smile on my face.”
