'Positive identification' made of bribery suspect
[GOLD CUP: Group C] Concacaf released a statement Thursday, confirming that it was notified of an attempt to bribe Belize national team players Woodrow West and Ian Gaynair two days before the Jaguars' Gold Cup match against the United States in Portland, Ore., and that
there had been "a positive identification" of the individual attempting the bribery.
The Belizean players approached confederation officials immediately after the incident
took place to report the attempted offense.
"We want to thank Woodrow West and Ian Gaynair," Concacaf said
in a statement, "and recognize them for their bravery and commitment to preserving the integrity of our game.
With the help of FIFA and INTERPOL, Concacaf has conducted three
separate seminars with all its federations focusing on educating, identifying and preventing match manipulation.
