[UNDER-20 WORLD CUP] Alphonse Areola, born to Filipino immigrants, is only the third-string keeper at Paris St. Germain, but he was the shootout hero as France won the Under-20 World Cup for the first time with a win on penalty kicks (4-1) over Uruguay after their match finished 0-0.

France converted all four penalty kicks, while Areola saved Uruguay's first two penalties from Emiliano Velazquez and Giorgian De Arrascaeta.

France became the first country to win all five of FIFA's major men's titles: World Cup (1998), Confederations Cup (2001), Olympics (1984), Under-20 World Cup (2013) and Under-17 World Cup (2001).

It's the sixth European country to win the U-20 title after the Soviet Union (1977), Germany (1981), Yugoslavia (1987), Portugal (1991 and 1993) and Spain (1999).

PK deciders could be reduced significantly if regulations would permit teams to field a new lineup for the overtime period.
