[USL PRO] Sacramento, which will join USL PRO in 2015, has hired National Hall of Famer and U.S. World Cup veteran Preki as its first head coach.

Preki, who made 28 international appearances, worked as the head coach of Chivas USA and Toronto FC in MLS. He is the only MLS player to have won the MLS MVP award and MLS scoring title twice.

“For Sac Pro Soccer to have appointed a person of Preki’s caliber," said Graham Smith, the technical director for Sacramento Professional Soccer, in a statement, "is indicative of our serious intent to establish the best organization not only in the USL PRO, but looking beyond to the future with MLS."

Warren Smith, the head of the team's ownership group, has stated the club's long-term goal is to join MLS.

Sac Pro Soccer will host Sacramento Soccer Day on Thursday. It will feature a match between Norwich City and Mexico’s Dorados as well as a game between an MLS reserve team and the Sacramento All-Stars. The club's name will be unveiled on Thursday.
