[GOLD CUP: Quarterfinals] Two-time defending champion Mexico moved into the semifinals of the Gold Cup, but it wasn't easy. Raul Jimenez, the only player who pulled double duty at both the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup for Mexico, scored in the 84th minute to give the Tri a 1-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago and set up a rematch with Panama in the semifinals. The Canaleros came back from an early deficit to beat Cuba, 6-1, in a match that turned on a red card.

The Mexico-T&T game looked to be headed to overtime when Jimenez redirected Miguel Layun's shot and it rolled past goalkeeper Jan Williams into the far corner of the net in the 83rd minute.

The win set up a rematch with Panama in Wednesday's semifinal at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas., The Canaleros upset Mexico, 2-1, in the tournament opener,

Cuba had taken an early lead against Panama and was still in the game even after Gabriel Torres scored twice to tie American Chris Wondolowski for the tournament lead with five goals, but it completely fell apart after its star, Ariel Martinez, was sent off for a violent stab at FC Dallas forward Blaz Perez in the 58th minute.

Former FC Dallas defender Carlos Rodriguez put Panama ahead, 3-1, 10 minutes later after the red card, Perez scored his 30th and 31st international goals, and Jairo Jimenez added a goal as the Canaleros scored at will against the demoralized Cubans.

CROWD COUNT. The doubleheader drew 54,229 fans at the Georgia Dome.
