RVA FC wins championship in first season
[NPSL: Final] Richmond Virginia Football Club won the National Premier Soccer League title in its first season with a 2-0 win over the Sonoma County Sol in
Sunday's final before almost 1,500 fans at Sports Backers Stadium.
James Madison junior Josh Grant's fourth goal in as many playoff games was the
difference in the 18th minute for RVA FC. Manel Bel added an insurance goal late in the second half.
The best chance for Sol, the NPSL winner in
2009 and runner-up in 2005, came when semifinal hero Taylor Varnadore’s header was cleared off the line.
