Suarez Becomes Liverpool Outcast
Guardian, August 8th, 2013 4:08PM

TAGS:  arsenal, england

Following his high-publicized interview with the Guardian on Wednesday, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been told to practice away from the rest of the squad, with Coach Brendan Rodgers describing his behavior as showing a “total disrespect of the club.” The Uruguayan’s situation was further compromised on Thursday by the revelation from the Professional Footballers’ Association that there is no clause in his contract guaranteeing him a move for $62 million.

Rodgers rejected the player's claim that he was promised a move if Liverpool failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season, saying: "There were no promises made – categorically none – and no promises broken. The club and his representatives had several conversations and he knew exactly where he was at.”

Asked whether Suarez would be allowed to play again for Liverpool, Rodgers added: “There's a few bridges to cross before that can happen. It's about the respect – that's the only thing we look for. This is one of the most iconic football clubs in the world, you can't disrespect it." Of an apology he added: "That's something I will ensure before anything happens in the future."
