[AMERICANS ABROAD]  John Anthony Brooks, who is expected to get his first call-up to the U.S. national team, scored in his Bundesliga debut, striking through a maze of players on the second goal in promoted Hertha Berlin's 6-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Neither Fabian Johnson nor Timmy Chandler played on the opening day of the German first division season.

Gold Cup champions Joe Corona and Edgar Castillo started in Tijuana's 2-0 win over UNAM in Mexico's Liga MX.
