[AMERICANS ABROAD] Brad Guzan, the only one of four Americans to play and win on the opening day of the English Premier League season, was sensational in Aston Villa's 3-1 win at Arsenal.

Guzan stopped Tomas Rosicky after the Czech star had broken through the Villa backline from point-blank range, then made a reflex save to deny Spaniard Santi Cazorla's shot with the score 2-1.

-- Aron Johannsson made it three goals in three league games with a goal in AZ's 2-1 win over RKC. Starting at left back, Fabian Johnson had an assist on Hoffenheim's first goal in its 5-1 win at Hamburg in Germany.

-- Paul Arriola came off the bench to score his first goal for Tijuana in the 88th minute, but Monterrey won, 2-1, with a goal a minute later. Arriola was one of four Americans to play for Xolos along with Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona and Greg Garza.

-- Jozy Altidore went the distance in his debut for Sunderland, which lost at home to Fulham, 1-0. He had two good chance in the second half but fired wide on the first and was denied by Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg denied Altidore at close range on the second.

-- Terrence Boyd suffered a dislocated shoulder while with the U.S. national team for its friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina and will be sidelined for three weeks, according to Rapid Vienna. He will likely putting him out of the September qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico.
