[MLS REWIND: Saturday] The Montreal Impact took the Eastern Conference lead with a 5-0 win over Houston -- the Dynamo's worst loss in its history -- and Italian Marco Di Vaio scored twice to take the scoring lead with 15 goals.

In the Western Conference, Real Salt Lake extended its lead to five points when it routed the Columbus Crew, 4-0. The LA Galaxy moved into second place with a 1-0 win at Vancouver and FC Dallas took sole possession of fifth place when it rallied from two goals down after 16 minutes to tie San Jose, 2-2.

WEEK 26 IN BRIEF:
Goals: 27/8 GP (avg.: 3.38)
Video: Weekend Timeline

The races for the fifth playoff spots in both conferences have tightened, however. Just three points separate the fifth- to seventh-place teams in the Eastern Conference and fifth- to eighth-place teams the Western Conference.

DONOVAN RECORD CHASE. It took Landon Donovan only 125 seconds to score with a left-footed blast from distance for the lone goal in the Galaxy's win in Vancouver. He got a lot of help in the quick buildup from Marcelo Sarvas and Robbie Keane to score his 131st career goal, leaving him just three behind the MLS record held by Jeff Cunningham.

SUPERMAN EFFORT. On the  Time Warner Cable SportsNet post-game show, Donovan gave a tip of the hat to recent signing, Panamanian keeper Jaime Penedo, for preserving the win with a sprawling save across the goal on Kekuta Manneh's shot after Jordan Harvey had blasted a shot off the post.

"It seemed like he just came out of nowhere, kind of like Superman, and extended his arm and made an unbelievable save," said Donovan.

Vancouver-LA Galaxy Highlights (Penedo save at 3:40):

NO handball in the LA Galaxy game. Why does everyone not understand the rule? INTENT you have to have some intent to be called for a handball. Half the "handballs" called in the MLS are wrong.
