Report: Donovan set to re-sign with Galaxy

[MLS SPOTLIGHT] It looks like Landon Donovan will stay in MLS after all. A press conference has been called for Wednesday when, according to SI.com, the LA Galaxy will announce that the 13-year MLS veteran, whose current contract expires at the end of 2013, will sign a new contract with the Galaxy.

Donovan's 2013 salary is listed at $2.5 million, according to the MLS Players' Union, making him the fifth highest paid player in the league behind Clint Dempsey, Robbie Keane, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill.

Donovan is three goals shy of the MLS career scoring record held by Jeff Cunningham (134 goals). He has won five MLS titles -- two with San Jose (2001 and 2003) and three with the Galaxy (2005, 2011 and 2012).

He has spent parts of four offseasons in Europe: one with Bayer Leverkusen, one with Bayern Munich and two with Everton.

He missed the start of the 2013 MLS season as he asked for time off. After a slow start, he has played very well the last two months with the Galaxy and U.S. national team, winning the 2013 Gold Cup.

Excellent decision Landon has made to stay with the Galaxy. He and Robbie will score many more goals for L.A.
