[CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Week 3] The San Jose Earthquakes lost their second game on the road when they fell to tiny Guatemala club Heredia, 1-0, in the Concacaf Champions League on Wednesday night. Starting Americans Joe Corona, Greg Garza and Paul Arriola, Tijuana moved closer to clinching its group with a 1-0 win over Luis Angel Firpo of El Salvador.

Heredia made it 2-for-2 against MLS clubs with a 1-0 win over the Quakes on midfielder Enrique Miranda's second-half goal. The Jaguares' home stadium is so small that Concacaf won't allow them to use it for Champions League matches. Wednesday's game was played instead in Guatemala City at the 14,000-seat Estadio Cementos Progreso, home of  Comunicaciones.

San Jose fielded a complete reserve team when it fell, 1-0, at Montreal three weeks ago, but this time the Quakes started stalwarts Victor Bernardez and Chris Wondolowski. Bernandez and Justin Morrow, who also started, are suspended and will miss Saturday's Cali Clasico match at the LA Galaxy.

Fidel Martinez scored in the 81st minute to give the Xolos the win over Luis Angel Firpo. They have seven points from three games and will win their group with a win or tie at home with Victoria of Honduras on Sept. 26.
