"It's time for football clubs and players to step up and make a visible stand against homophobia in our national game. By wearing rainbow laces players will send a message of support to gay players and can begin to drag football into the 21st century."

-- Laura Doughty, the deputy chief executive of gay rights organization Stonewall, which has sent rainbow-colored shoe laces to all professional clubs in England and encouraged players to don them during next weekend's games in support of a campaign to kick homophobia out of soccer.
